EXEMPTIONS FROM SCHOOL ATTENDANCE: SCHOOL RELEASE PERMITS

Students 14 or 15 years of age may apply for school release permits through the office of the superintendent.  School release permits may be issued in accordance with C.R.S., 8-12-113, for students who must work during regular school hours, and who are excused by school officials for special reasons.

School release permits shall be issued only for a specific position with a designated employer for specific lengths of time not to exceed 30 days. They are canceled upon termination of such employment and shall be issued only in the following circumstances:

  1. If the minor is to be employed in an occupation not prohibited by C.R.S. 8-12-110, and, as evidence thereof, presents a signed statement from his or her prospective employer;
     
  2. If the parent or guardian of the minor consents to the employment;
     
  3. If the superintendent believes the best interests of the minor will be served by permitting him/her to work; and
     
  4. The permit shall be limited to require at least three class hours of school attendance each regular school day except in cases of extreme hardship.

Age certificates may be issued in accordance with C.R.S. 8-12-111, to students who work outside of school hours and during vacations.
