Leave of Absence
The District offers employees Leaves of Absence for time away from work to cover extenuating circumstances in an employee's life. Employee's that expect to be out 5 consecutive work days or longer, will need to contact the Benefits Department to discuss further action. Refer to the revised Board of Education Leave of Absence policy-under REVISION for futher information.
Douglas County School District offers short term disability through Standard Insurance to protect your income if you are unable to work. After a 14 calender day waiting period or after all accrued sick days are exhausted. Standard Insurance will pay a base benefit of 50% of your salary or 70% of your salary if you chose the Buy-up coverage.
Steps to be completed for the Leave of Absence process:
- Login to Workday and select the Time Off Worklet. Please select the link to the Workday Leave of Absence Instructions.
- Fax medical documentation, completed by your treating physician, to 720-433-0082
- File a short term disability claim with Standard Insurance by calling 1-800-378-2395
- Any changes in your leave status should be reported to Benefits and Standard Insurance
- All Transportation employees will require a Fitness for Duty prior to return to work
- Complete the Return from Leave Notification two weeks prior to your return to work and submit the form to Diane Howell with your administrator’s signature in order to be re-activated as an active employee and receive a paycheck.

PERA Disability Information:
Colorado PERA members with five or more years of earned service credit are covered by a two-tier disability program consisting of a short term distability (STD) insurance and disability retirement benefit. The Disability Program Administrator, UNUM, makes the medical determinations for the program and provides STD coverage through an insurance policy. You can obtain additional information regarding this programs at www.copera.org.

Preventative Care Incentive Program - As part of an effort to promote health and wellness, Kaiser is paying for cash reward drawings. Please print, complete, and upload the Staff Wellness Preventative Medical Form by June 30, 2018. By doing so, you will be entered into a random cash prize drawing to take place by mid-July, 2018.
Participation is strictly voluntary and is open to any District employee regardless of his/her medical provider. (Allegiance member are those who waived the District coverage are welcome!) Limit one submission per employee.

Employee Assistance Program
With Aetna’s EAP, employees can confidentially address and resolve their day-to-day personal and workplace challenges—resulting in a more focused and productive workforce.
DCSD has provided up to 6 face-to-face sessions per employee and household member per issue per year. Counseling services are provided at no charge to employees and their household members. Aetna offers short-term counseling on all aspects of life, including:

Need immediate assistsance for a crisis? Look over the Crisis Reference Guide. Employers, as well as employees, can call the Crisis Support line and speak to a clinician about the crisis. If a person under crisis won't call them or go to one of the free walk-in centers, they have a mobile unit and will come to the person and assess the person.

As a traditional pension plan, Colorado PERA provides members and retirees with a comprehensive benefit package.
