![]() Aloha! Welcome to English as a Second Language (ESL) at MRMS & MVHS. At both schools, I implement the Collaborative Model working with various subject teachers at MV along with teams 72, 83, and 85 at MR. My name is Anita Hoekstra and I relocated as a Language Development Specialist educator to CO from CA. I am married with two young children. I have been teaching K-12 grades for 23 years with a variety of extensions. These experiences have allowed me to specialize in curriculum design within grades preschool thru 8th grades. I earned a BA from San Diego State University (SDSU) with a graduate credential (both Elementary and ESL) from United States International University (USIU) that prepared me well for my concentration of instruction in ESL Education. In addition, I have master's credentials from National University (NU) and University of California in San Diego (UCSD) in graduate teachings. A few years ago I added a Master's In Curriculum & Instruction (MACI) from Colorado Christian University (CCU). My philosophy embraces the knowledge gain of language in all aspects of reading, writing, listening, speaking, spelling, and mathematics. I feel the initial mode to our children's success in life is for them to have a strong command of the English language which spills over into other subjects that brings them to self-actualization. I welcome the partnership of parents, teachers, and resources to enhance the development of each child. "It takes a village to raise a child!" May I personally invite your family to join our villages at MRMS & MVHS.
