Mr. Webbe's Home page

Welcome parents and students to my school home page for the 2009-2010 school year. For the first semester I will be teaching one section of TechEd and five sections of Computer I. With this diversified and busy schedule I will do my best to make this site as helpful and informative as I can for all of my classes. Look for updates in the coming weeks and email me if you have any questions. Thanks Mr. Webbe

Computer I 1st Semester

Course Description

Computer I focuses on productivity computing using the MS Office Suite. MS Word and Excel are taught through a series of projects that teach students the skills necessary to enhance their computing experience and productivity in and outside of the classroom. Other topics covered in this class are Internet safety and search skills.

MS Word
Our first project in MS Word is called Word Search and the link is below:

Google SketchUp

Click here for a basic tutorial on how to build a house in Google SketchUp.  Go the the bottom of the page in section D, videos 1-3, for the three part tutorial.

Google Earth

Atomic Leaning's Google Earth 5 tutorials:

MSExcel

Spreadsheets are useful tool for any student and can be integrated into most core class curriculum's. Computer I students will learn that basics of spreadsheets and then practice their skills in a series of projects. Our first project is called "If I had a Million" the link to the project is below:

The second project in our MS Excel Unit is called " Media Moments". This project will last two weeks and require students to track their media use on a daily basis. Project link is below:

Our third MS Excel project in our spreadsheet unit is called "The Average Kid". This project asks students to measure and record various body dimensions. Then students place the data into a spreadsheet and chart the results. Finally students will analyze that data and come to some conclusions about variations in body style. The link for The Average kid is below:

Atomic Learning

Atomic Learning is an on line computer training resource. I will be using Atomic Learning to introduce students to new computer skills and projects. Students can also use the site to review skills that they would like to master. In addition, students can use this site from a home computer to make up lessons missed because of an absence. Atomic Learning is free to use for our students from either school or home. They have been provided a user name and password and have been instructed on how to use it. To visit Atomic Learning go to:
Keyboarding

Computer I will be using the Typing Pal program and the website Free Typing Game.net to learn and improve keyboarding skills. Students will be spending about 10 to 15 minutes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday on keyboarding skills for the first half of the course.
Computer I students need to use this link below for Typing Pal and Freetypinggame.net:

Soda Play

This physics based simulation program introduces variables into a virtual world. Students can create "critters" then manipulate variables in the virtual world to allow movement. Link to Soda Play below:

Technology Education
08/04/2009
Welcome 7th and 8th graders to my TechEd class for the 09-10 school year. If you are not familiar with Technology Education then let me provide you with a very brief overview. The goal of the CRMS Technology Education class is to expose students to a wide range of computer and engineering skills and experiences. More specifically and important is that we want students to become interested and excited about the various fields of technology and hopefully get them "hooked" into an area they love and would like to pursue in their future education. Our curriculum spans from computer graphics to the basic principles of engineering design and implementation. However, what ever we focus on in class we will require students to use higher levels of thinking to solve problems related to technology because in many instances there will be multiple solutions. Finally, we will be asking students to master the basic vocabulary related to each of the areas of study so that we may be able to communicate our ideas and solutions with other students and our teachers in a meaningful way.
I will be using this website to keep students and parents up to date on the status of our class so check in periodically for new updates. We are going to have a great year and am exited to get started. See you in few days. Webbe
