Building Resource Teacher

I come from a family of educators and swore I'd never be a teacher.  Over thirty years later, I still can't imagine being any place but in an elementary school!  And I love being part of Eldorado Elementary having joined the staff in 2007 as Building Resource Teacher.  The focus of my job is to help teachers teach by offering training, resources, and coaching.

I grew up in Flint, Michigan with parents who were teachers; my sister is currently teaching at the university level in Michigan.  After graduating from Heidelberg College in Ohio, and getting married, I taught elementary general music for 5 years, then decided to get my elementary education certification. I taught third grade for 3 years. We moved to Colorado in 1982.  I earned my masters in Computers in Education from Phoenix University, and have continued to take a variety of classes and trainings through my years in education.

I taught fourth and fifth grades in Bennett School District for 3 years before coming to Douglas County School District in 1986.  I have taught sixth grade at Sedalia Elementary, and fifth and sixth grades at Bear Canyon Elementary.  I became BRT at Bear Canyon in 1998, and later moved to Timber Trail Elementary. I have been so impressed over the years with the schools in Douglas County for the forward thinking and the opportunities for staff and students and parents.  We live in Parker, so my daughters have had the advantage of a Douglas County education from kindergarten through high school.

My older daughter, Erica, works and lives in Chicago.  She is an accountant for a business club located in the Sears Tower, and lives right next to Navy Pier; we love visiting her and enjoying everything Chicago has to offer.  My younger daughter, Samantha, lives in Highlands Ranch and works at Regis University.  I love having her in town and being close to her!  Ralph, my husband works for Charles Schwab. We love reading and traveling.  Our favorite destinations have been Paris and Venice.  We hope to return and have the opportunity to visit other European countries.

My years as an educator has taught me that you never stop learning.  I'm amazed at what I learn every day here at Eldorado.  What a great school!
