OF SPECIAL NOTE****
ThunderRidge made Newsweek magazine's 2009 list of the top 1,500 high schools in the United States.

According to a ratio devised by reporter Jay Mathews called the Challenge Index, schools are ranked by dividing the number of students taking Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) and/or Cambridge tests, by the number of graduating seniors. The schools that made the list were those in the top 6 percent of this measure. The calculation is simple, but a useful way to measure what Mathews calls the "cultures" of these top high schools. "These are all exceptional schools," says Mathews on the Newsweek website. "Every one is in the top 6 percent of American high schools measured this way. They have all shown remarkable AP and IB strength."

"These rankings are a tribute to the hard work of our teachers, students and school community," says Superintendent Jim Christensen, "Everyone involved with our schools works very hard to maintain a high level of excellence."

A complete list of the Newsweek best high schools can be seen on their website at www.newsweek.com/id/201160.
