YOU'RE INVITED!
to the
Back To School BBQ
Wednesday, August 4th
hosted by the TTEA (Timber Trail Educational
Alliance)
Please RSVP via Evite.com by
Wednesday, June 16th
so that we have enough hot dogs
for everyone
Click
HERE
to view the Evite invitation.
This event will be a great way for students and parents to meet
others in their class and will serve as a fundraiser for the school.
This year TTEA's main fund-raiser is called "30K in 30
Days".
The goal of this drive is to raise
$30,000 between Wednesday, August 4th and Thursday, September 2nd.
If donations received during these thirty days averaged $50 for
every student at Timber Trail, the goal would be reached!
The money earned will be put towards science kits and technology
for the 2010-11 school year.
We will be raffling off three great prizes at the BBQ!
o
A new Apple iPad
o
Two TTE parking spots
In order to receive raffle tickets and participate in the drawing,
donations must be received on Wednesday, August 4th. You can make your
donation on Wednesday, August 4th at Timber Trail or at the BBQ that afternoon.
The "30K in 30 Days"
fundraising drive will end on
Thursday, September 2nd.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Kiss 'n Go Lane ~ Top 10 Reminders! |

Looking forward to next year
and anticipating changes. We know
that since all students will be in session at once, our Kiss 'N Go Lane and
parking lot are going to be crowded at drop off and dismissal. We would like to start practicing
now. Please be aware of a few
things that will keep our line moving, while keeping students safe. Please……
1. Stay in your
car!!!!! Do not get out to open
the car door for your child.
2. Pull all the
way through the crosswalk if possible before stopping.
3. Do not let
your child exit your car on the driver's side.
This is unsafe.
4. Motion to a
staff member if you would like us to open the door for your child.
5. If you need
to get out of your car for any reason
(to give your teacher a note, to talk to a bus driver, to help your child put
their backpack on), please park in the upper parking lot and walk your child
through the crosswalk.
6. Have your
child/ren ready to exit your car quickly (coat on, backpack ready, shoes on…)
7. If your
child is unable to exit your car independently, please park in the upper
parking lot.
8. Do not
motion for your child to walk unattended through the crosswalk to the upper
parking lot. We've had a few
"close calls".
9.
Walkers: please wait for
the crosswalk attendant to acknowledge you before crossing.
10. Thank you for cooperating and being respectful to our
staff who work so hard everyday to make sure your children are safe and our
Kiss 'N Go Lane moves efficiently.
Please feel free to pass this message on to grandparents,
babysitters, siblings etc….

TTE Pilots ReadingPlus® Program |
Recently,
Timber Trail Elementary began piloting a literacy program called Reading
Plus. This program is a web-based
reading and intervention system that uses technology to provide individualized
silent reading practice for students in second grade and above.
This
program is currently being used at Rocky Heights Middle School as well. The Building Resource Teachers
(BRT) from the Rock Canyon Feeder have recently secured a grant that will provide licenses for all four elementary schools (Timber Trail, Buffalo Ridge, Redstone and Wildcat) at a greatly reduced price.
Kristie Krier, Timber Trail's BRT, was able to secure the pilot program for Timber Trail for the second half of the 2009 - 2010 school year. The program license per school cost $15,000 per year. Since receiving the grant, three of the four elementary schools will now have access to the program for three years at the greatly reduced fee of only $2912.50!

TTE Installs Climbing Wall with TTEA Funds |
Recently,
a much anticipated dream became a reality for the students of Timber Trail
Elementary and Mr. Newman, the school's PE Teacher. After a few years of fundraising and hard work, the Timber
Trail Education Alliance (TTEA) was able to purchase and install an 8 X 24 foot
climbing wall in the school's gymnasium.
The
addition of the climbing wall will provide many benefits for the school. It is an excellent tool
for
cross-curricular support and can offer non-traditional physical education for
students who shy away from traditional sports. Future plans may also include using the climbing
wall as an enrichment tool for after school clubs.
The funds for the climbing wall were generated
mostly from Tae Kwon Do lessons from Master Lee of Han Lee's TaeKwonDo
Academy. Assemblies were held by
Master Lee as a means to generate new student registrations. Master Lee then generously donated all
proceeds of each new member

TTE hosts Invention Convention |
Timber
Trail Elementary recently hosted the first-ever Invention Convention. The event was held on May 12th and showcased the inventions of 4th and 5th graders.
The
convention, which will take place biennially, was mandatory for fourth graders
and optional for fifth graders, with students working either individually or in
small groups. The convention
showcased 67 inventions and was overseen by Ms. Sara Haynes, fourth
grade teacher, and Mr. Tony Greene, fifth grade teacher.
The purpose of the convention was for students to
use their creative and scientific talents to invent a new product. The inventions were planned and created at home over a six-week timeframe. The inventions had to meet certain criteria such as beng a unique and original idea that solved a problem and would be useful to the average person.
