Parents,

Children are as different as the colors in the sky or the flowers in a field. As specials teachers, we have a unique chance to celebrate specific areas of passion with children. As we move into the 2009-2010 school year, we want to share your child's passion with you. We are going to have "Whole Child" Celebrations starting this year. These celebrations will not only allow you to look at your child's accomplishments in specials, but to practice the same skills your child is mastering in their specials classrooms.

We will be hosting 2 events. One in the beginning of the year that coincides with the Sock Hop and the other later in the year on May 20th, and June 10th. This second event will celebrate what the students have been working on since the first Whole Child Event.

On the evening of Oct. 29th, and 30th, 2009 we will be enjoying the Sock Hop where Mr. McCurly and Mr. Barstnar will show off student skills in a variety of dances they have learned in Music and P.E.  Miss Mitchem, Mr. Kasper, and Mrs. Kangas will have examples of student work and areas where the parents have an opportunity to be the students and the students will become the teachers.

Mr. Kasper will show what the students have been doing with internet safety, page layout and design. Parents will also get a chance to practice some of these skills as well.

Ms. Mitchem will have project demonstrations set up so that parents and students can create small artwork together. Different Art media will be available to experiment with such as watercolor painting, metal working stations or oil pastel drawings will be some of the available materials for parents and students to use.

Mrs. Kangas' students will be conducting tours of the habitat and sharing results of research and scientific investigations from the first 12 weeks of school.

Off to a New Year!
