The 2nd Annual Douglas County School District Colorado Avalanche Community Night, sponsored by the Douglas County Educational Foundation, was held on Saturday, November 8th, 2008. Over seventy schools from throughout the district participated in selling more than 5,600 discounted tickets for the hockey game. Almost a third of the 18,007 fans in attendance, at the sold out Pepsi Center, were DCSD students, families, employees and community members. The tremendous support of this event raised approximately $11,000 for the Foundation, which will directly benefit Douglas County Schools. The arena was rocking as Douglas County fans cheered the Avs to a shut out of the Nashville Predators, winning 1-0! During the 1st intermission, a special ceremony was held on the ice as the Avalanche recognized the DCSD, DCEF and representatives from the top attending schools for the fantastic turn out. This marks the second year in a row that an NHL single game group ticket attendance record was broken by Douglas County! "Our Kroenke Sports (Avalanche and Nuggets) community nights have proven to be a very successful way to bring our community together while offering a tremendous deal through our partner! This partnership has opened up many doors for the DCEF that will enable the Foundation to continue to offer great deals while raising valuable funds for the district," said DCEF Executive Director Sean McGraw.
