School Advisory Council Elections-
The School Advisory Council (SAC) is comprised of various school community members (parents, teachers, local business leaders) who meet regularly with the Principal to become informed and educated on various issues that affect the school and students. Topics for discussion include school improvement plans, school safety, the latest teaching methods, practices and resources, CSAP results and additional topics the council feels should be addressed. The School Advisory Council is an advisory board that acts as a sounding board for the Principal.
If you are interested in serving on the 2009-2010 School Advisory Council please download, complete and return the nomination form by April 24th. Elections will be held the week of April 27th. For questions or additional information please call the CME office at 303-387-7375.
Spring is here!!
Spring is here and with the beautiful warm weather comes the frequent afternoon thunder and lightning storms. These storms may cause delayed dismissal. A red flag will be placed on the flag -pole if a delayed dismissal is called. If and when this occurs, you will need to go directly to the classroom and sign your child out. If you do not already have a plan for pick up on file with the office, please make those arrangements and inform the Office as to who may pick up your child.
Spring also brings out the desire to ride skateboards, scooters, and bicycles to school. As a reminder, all bicycles must be walked while on school grounds. Please have children wear their helmets while bike riding. Also, no skateboards or scooters of any kind are allowed at school. These rules apply to students as well as all family members.
Student Pick-up in the Bus Loop-
Student safety is our number one priority while loading students after school in the bus loop. Please remember the following guidelines when picking up students:
• Pull your car down to the bottom of the bus loop for loading.
•Students are loaded into cars in the Loading Zone ONLY.
• Students are not get into their car while it is still on Windridge or at the top of the bus loop. •Only the first few cars at the bottom of the loop (Loading Zone) are loaded at one time.
•Please do not use your cell phone in the bus loop during student pick-up.
Thank you for helping us get all students home safely at the end of the day.
Thank you for your support of our students, teachers and staff!

The Much Awaited Climbing Wall-
Yeah!!!! Our Climbing Wall has been installed and is in action. The students and I are thrilled and enjoying the challenges and activities that we can experience when using the Wall. Thank you for all of your support over the past four years to make this happen. The Dad's Club has been awesome. They were the key players and fundraisers to get this task done.
As with all of our PE equipment, there are some safety risks when climbing the Wall. Please be assured that Safety is of the utmost importance to the Copper Mesa Staff and me. Every student is instructed on the terms and expectations when using the wall. The wall is set up so that the student's feet may not exceed 5 feet above the ground. The wall is well marked at the 5 foot level and the floor under the wall is covered with mats. Students are also instructed that they may not jump off the wall above the four-foot mark. I feel these are safe and reasonable expectations.
Bouldering on a Traverse Wall builds muscular strength, flexibility, coordination and cardiovascular fitness. By working the entire muscle spectrum, through repetitive movement, climbing builds muscular strength throughout the entire body. Additionally, this type of cardiovascular movement stimulates the brain allowing an increase in the flow of blood to the frontal cortex of the brain. This directly impacts learning through increased focus and attention.
A climbing program also builds life-long wellness by developing characteristics such as problem solving, goal setting, courage, positive risk taking, perseverance, will power, patience and confidence.
Thanks again,
