Classroom Management

BE GOOD

BE KIND

BE SAFE

BE HAPPY

The goal of my sixth grade classroom is to create a "love for learning" environment for all students. I believe that each sixth grade student is old enough to be responsible for his/her own choices, both positive and negative. Therefore, each child has been placed in charge of managing his/her own behavior.

The Six Guidelines of Our Learning Community

1. Attentive Listening

2. Personal Best

3. Trustworthiness

4. Truthfulness

5. Mutual Respect

6. Appreciation

(No Put Downs / No Bullying)

The first few days, the students were introduced to "incentive cards". As the school year progresses, children who receive no signatures will be rewarded. Students will only receive signatures for things like not turning in assignments, breaking classroom or school rules, as well as for other poor choices. We will have a reward on Fridays for those who did not get their incentive card signed during the week. On those days, students will have the opportunity to listen to their ipods, have some type of reward like ice cream or root beer floats, and have an extended recess. It's your child's choice! I truly believe this approach to classroom discipline is highly effective and rewarding. I feel that self-discipline and a positive learning environment are important factors for success in school.

Our classroom rules are as follows:

1. Follow directions.

2. Be respectful.

3. Use appropriate voice level.

4. Use time wisely.

BE GOOD

BE KIND

BE SAFE

BE HAPPY
