TRHS Academic Program Information

International Baccalaureate - International Baccalaureate Program courses give students an advantage in college while they are still in the encouraging environment of a high school classroom. Earning the IB Diploma sends a powerful message to colleges and universities that the student is ready for post-secondary work. IB can help students gain admission, earn college credit, and placement into advanced courses. Currently we are accepting interest forms from eighth and ninth graders and commitment forms from current sophomores. These courses do receive weighted grades. For more information go to the TRHS IB website.

Advanced Placement -Advanced Placement Program courses give students a head start in college while they are still in the supportive environment of a high school classroom. Taking the end-of-course AP exam sends a powerful message to colleges and universities that the student is ready for post-secondary work. AP can help students gain admission; earn college credit, and placement into advanced courses. Currently we have 707 students enrolled in AP courses. These courses do receive weighted grades. For more information go the AP webpage.

How is IB different from AP? Both IB and AP offer rigorous courses and are excellent preparation for college; however, students learn differently within the courses. AP courses focus on the student's area of strength, while IB is a comprehensive curriculum that requires the student to take courses in all subjects and is centered on a global perspective. AP courses are taught individually, whereas IB is an interdisciplinary, International program of study focused on the student.

College Ready Program and/or Dual Enrollment Courses are college level courses taught by Douglas County teachers certified in the area of study. Students can earn dual credit through DCSD and ACC. This credit can be transferred to any Colorado public college or university. Classes may be scheduled outside the traditional day. Location of the classes will be determined by where the major interest for each course is shown. These courses do not receive weighted grades. College Ready Program

Honors Program - ThunderRidge High School offers many courses at the honors level. Honors courses differ from regular courses in that the students will delve into the curriculum at a deeper level, the curriculum will cover a broader range of topics, and the class moves at a quicker pace. Honors courses are aligned to support the college preparatory courses taught at TRHS.
