McREL research indicates that effective schools provide a "guaranteed and viable" curriculum. That is, they
offer a well-articulated curriculum and ensure that it is taught in every classroom.
Northridge Elementary fully embraces these research-based philosophies and has fully integrated the following
programs to achieve a GVC for all students.

Reading

Macmillan/McGraw-Hill is the nation's leading publisher of elementary educational materials from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 6. Our goal is to provide scientifically research-based print and technology materials that instruct, nurture, and challenge students to maximize their potential. Professional resources, designed to meet the needs of today's teachers, are up-to-date and easy-to-use.

Writing

Every Child a Writer from the National Literacy Coalition. "The National Literacy Coalition provides comprehensive, research-based professional development services to schools implementing schoolwide instructional programs. Our services include teacher and administrator training in all areas of reading and writing instruction and assessment."

Seeing Red (Revising and Editing Daily) Utilized in grade 2 through 6.

Math

Everyday Mathematics is a rigorous PreK-6 curriculum used across the country. It is scientifically research-based and proven to build students' mathematical knowledge from the basics to higher-order thinking and critical problem solving.

Science

Doughlas County Schools developed a comprehensive hands on science curriculum that is utilized at Northridge. The specific content areas are accessible by grade level from Discovery Works by Houghton Mifflin

Social Studies

The social studies curriculum at Northridge is in compliance with the Douglas County School District developed curriculum. Our students from kindergarten through 6th grade study: family, community, US history, government, state history, georgraphic regions, and the western hemisphere. The text that supports these content elements is published by Harcourt-Brace.

Art, Music, PE

All DCSD elementary school specials classes follow the district developed curriculum for their respective areas. This curriculum incorporates the Colorado state standards as well as the national standards. The Grade Level Standards page in this website has links to these curriculum guides.

Bully Prevention

Bully-Proofing from Creating Caring Communities. "Our work focuses on supporting schools and communities in the creation of a positive, caring work environment that feels safe and secure for all. Handwriting

Handwriting without Tears.The goal of Handwriting Without Tears¨ is to make legible and fluent handwriting an easy and automatic skill for all students. The unique and compelling curriculum design and teaching strategies facilitate this goal.
