Roxborough Primary and Intermediate School Points of Pride

Rigorous Math Program
Students participate in 90 minutes of instruction in Everyday Math (Grades 1-6) and 45 minutes in kindergarten.  The Everyday Math Program is based on research and standards that support high achievement in mathematics.

Research-Based Literacy Instruction
The Every Child a Reader and Writer Programs are implelemented school-wide by all grades levels. Student achievement data associated with these two programs demonstrate a strong correlation between the methodology and performance.  All students are assessed on a systematic basis to determine proficiency. Student instruction is differentiated based on individual need, ensure that each child works appropriately toward goals matched with current performance level.  A targeted intervention plan and frequent progress monitoring is provided for students who are not proficient at grade level benchmarks.

Positive Behavior Support (PBS)
This program develops consistent expectations for behavior throughout the building, as well as teaching and recognizing positive behavior. The plan is built around three rules: Respect, Responsibility, and Safety. Additionally, our Rattler Recognition Program honors those students who exemplify the Rattler Commitments:  Model the Way, Remember Why We Are Here, Choose Words Carefully, Collaborate, Challenge to Grow, and Encourage the Heart.

Arts, Technology, and Physical Well-Being
We believe academic pursuits need to be balanced with physical fitness opportunities, and an appreciation for the arts through our general music, instrumental music, and art programs. Additionally, we strive to incorporate technology into daily projects and activities, creating an integrated approach to technology education.

Extensive Staff Preparation and Commitment
Our staff members are highly committed to developing their craft as educators. Over half of our certified staff members hold advanced degrees.  Roxborough staff members regularly participate in professional growth opportunities outside the school day to refine their teaching practices further.

Highly Active Parent Community
Our Parent Teacher Involvement Committee (PTIC) raised over $75,000 during the 2007-2008 school year.  Volunteers in our school log over 12,000 hours annually, providing valuable support to our students.  We provide multiple opportunities for parent education through our monthly Parent Information Nights.

Project G.R.E.A.T. Mentoring Program
Students from the ThunderRidge High School (TRHS) National Honor Society are paired with Roxborough students to mentor and support them with their academic pursuits.
