Students of the Semester Fall 2009
English - Suzanna S.
Suzi is willing to take the leap of faith that reading and writing about difficult texts requires if one is to become a scholar of excellence. I've observed Suzanna to be eager to stretch and grow this semester rather than take the safe route in her studies. She's made critical contributions to our class discussions, and, even though the demands of AP Lit can be frustrating, she's managing to smile through it all. This bright light of 7th period encourages fellow students and me as well.
Math - Katie K.
Katie is a junior in the AP Calculus BC class. She was the best student I had three years ago, as a freshman in my Honors Algebra II class. She has helped me in summer school for the last two summers. She is and has been an active member of the math club for two years (the only two years that it has existed). She is also tutoring some Algebra I students.
Science - Tanisha C.
Tanisha has a good attitude, is very conscientious, and does top notch work
Social Studies - Caitlin B.
Caitlin is an AP Psych student who overcame significant health setbacks to maintain a solid A in the class. She contributes daily, cares about the quality of her work, and demonstrates honest interest in learning and mastering the content. Despite recent setbacks, this terrific young citizen always makes sure to touch base with me in order to keep up with her work. She epitomizes the kid who despite obstacles, consistently perceivers in order to make the most of her educational experience.
Art - Will B.
Business - Tyler K.
Integrity… Role Model… Business-Minded… Disciplined… all of these words characterize the MVHS Business Department Student of the Semester, Mr. Tyler K. Tyler has been a student in our department since 2008. Specifically, he has achieved much recognition as a top contender in Internet Marketing Team Event & Business Law Team Event at DECA competitions. This year, with his partner, Tyler has managed to capture a first place finish and top test score honors in all but one of our conferences. As the president of DECA, Tyler is a leader that holds others accountable, leads by example, and sets the bar for our chapter standards. Through his involvement in FCA, FBLA, and DECA, Tyler exemplifies what a "student athlete" should be. His humility, responsibility, and respect towards his fellow classmates and MVHS staff are just another example of him being chosen as our recipient. We look forward to what the future holds for Tyler as he has just been accepted to Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. Congratulations to Tyler on a very well-deserved recognition. We are proud to have you as a member of our programs.
Family and Consumer Science - Jessie L.
Jessie just completed 120 hours of internship at Hilton Garden Inn. Jessie has been one of the most professional, personable, and intelligent interns to come through the program. Not only did she get hired upon completion of the internship, but she is also the reason that the general manager of the property is begging for more MVHS interns in the future. She has truly done a fantastic job!
Physical Education - Matt H.
Matt is responsible, punctual, detailed, goes out of his way to help others, always willing to do something extra, and cares about his peers. Always does the right thing.
World Language - Colin I.
The World Languages Department has selected Colin as our Student of the Semester. He takes both Spanish 5 Advanced Conversation and ASL Level 3. He is a positive leader in both classrooms and brings tremendous energy to all class activities!
Theater - Mac L.
Performing Arts - Rebecca L.
Communications - Robert D.
