October Students of the Month
English - Lauren D
Lauren is an excellent student in English III. I respect her critical thinking as demonstrated in written activities and discussion. She's always prepared for class and is a frequent contributor to our class discussions. (Kay Porterfield)
Math - Cody E
Cody was chosen because of his amazing perseverance and conscientious work ethic he has shown in Alg 2/Trig where he is earning an A in the class. The material does not come easy for Cody but he is consistently seeing Mrs. Edwards before school and during his lunch to clarify his understanding and he won't quit until he is satisfied that he understands it perfectly.
Science - Anastasia G
She's in honors, has only been speaking English for 3 years and is just an outstanding student and thinker. She has a 97%! Terrific
Social Studies - Caitlin B
Caitlin is an AP Psych student who overcame significant health setbacks to maintain a solid A in the class. She contributes daily, cares about the quality of her work, and demonstrates honest interest in learning and mastering the content. One terrific kid.
Art - Tim V
Tim is a talented and dedicated Jewelry 2 student. Over the course of this semester, he has produced unique jewelry pieces that have gone above and beyond what is required. He often comes in to work on extra projects and goes out of his way to help others in class. He also is a wonderful young man with a bright future ahead of him. It is my pleasure to choose him as my student of the semester.
Business/Tech - Brennan B
Brennan is a very motivated and business minded student. He is currently enrolled in Marketing III, is a DECA officer at the local and state level, and is aspiring to manage a campaign to run for international office of the Western Region. Brennan has taken on many roles this year and is pushing past his comfort zone to put himself in a competitive position for his post-secondary future. As a DECA competitor, Brennan continues to set the stage and as one Marketing I student phrased it, "he is a hoss" when it comes to Sports Marketing. I am very proud to select Brennan as this month's recipient for Outstanding Student of the Month for the MVHS Business/Technology Department.
FACS - Jamie R
Jamie has taken many of our classes including Personal Finance, Healthy Decisions, Fashion Design, and Creative Foods. This semester she is also doing a fantastic job as our teacher aid and we really appreciate her hard work and positive attitude.
Journalism - Trevor D
Trevor earned a first place (sports news-feature) and two second places (sports game coverage and school/district/community news) in the 2009 5A Colorado High School Press Association Newspaper Sweepstakes, the equivalent of a state championship in journalism. In addition, he earned an honorable mention for sports writing in the national Press Women journalism contest, after earning a first-place award in the state contest. Already accepted to the prestigious journalism school at the University of Missouri, Trevor is one of the very best student-journalists ever at MVHS. "Trevor just gets journalism," said adviser Mark Newton. "He sees the world as a journalist, and that's something very, very hard to teach. That, coupled with great writing and reporting skills is why TD is an exceptional editor. I predict he's going to be even more successful this year, particularly if he challenges himself as a reporter and editor."
P.E. - John B
John is focused, a role model, exceeds in class, and helps others.
Performing Arts - Michael R
Michael has been involved in every production this year. He acted in the 9/10 show, A Cold Day in ****, and has done a great job as a member of the lighting crew and as the Asst. Stage Manager for Joseph. He is an energetic, passionate, focused student who has an A+ in Theatre 1. Congratulations, Michael!
World Languages - Lucas G
Lucas has been my German student for the past two years (German I & II). This year, in addition, he is taking Chinese I. Lucas displays a natural curiosity for the culture of Germany and other German speaking countries and areas. He demonstrates a talent in pronunciation and listening comprehension. Lucas utilizes more advanced grammatical constructions in his speech and in his writing. It is a great pleasure to have Lucas in my class!
