The English-Speaking Union of the United States of America invites you to compete in its Shakespeare competition. High School students study, memorize, and perform a monologue of 10-20 lines from one of Shakespeare's plays. Chaparral's winner advances to the Denver English-Speaking Union Branch Competition, adding a sonnet to his or her monologue presentation. The Branch Competition Winner receives a weekend of workshops and sightseeing in New York City, in addition to the opportunity to compete on stage at Lincoln Center. The National Competition Winner is awarded a full tuition scholarship to the British American Drama Academy's Midsummer Conservatory Program in Oxford, England. Second place is awarded $1,000, and the third place winner receives $500 from the Shakespeare Society. Auditions will be last week of September, during lunch.
